Take your phone number off your windscreen

Almost every car parked in an Indian city has a phone number somewhere on it — written on a card behind the windscreen, printed on a strip on the rear glass, scribbled on a sticky note. It is there for a good reason. Cars block gates. Lights get left on. Somebody has to be able to reach you.

Almost nobody thinks of that number as published. It is. Anybody who walks past can photograph it in a second, and from then on it is theirs — to call, to add to a list, to sell on, to use at three in the morning.

What a QR sticker changes

A QR decal does the same job with none of that. Someone scans it with an ordinary phone camera. Their phone opens a page. From that page they can ring you, and the call connects through ANOQR rather than dialling you directly.

Neither side sees the other's number. They never had yours, and you never get theirs. When the call ends there is nothing either person can look up later.

If they do not need to speak to you at all, they tap one of the fixed reasons instead — wrong parking, blocking the gate, lights left on, tow warning — and you get a notification. That is usually all anybody wanted.

The part people miss: there is no typing

There is no free-text box anywhere in the flow. A stranger cannot compose a message to you. They can ring, or they can tap one of the listed reasons, and that is the whole surface.

This is not a simplification, it is the safety property. A contact channel on a parked car that accepts typed messages is a channel that will eventually be used to send you something you did not want to read. Fixed reasons cannot be.

Three ways a contact gets through

The system tries the cheap routes first and keeps the expensive one for when it is actually needed:

1. A free browser call. If you have the tab or the app open, the call rings straight through, peer to peer. It costs nothing.
2. A masked phone call. If you are not reachable in a browser, ANOQR bridges a real phone call between the two numbers without showing either one to the other. This is the rung that draws on your calling balance.
3. A free alert. The tap-a-reason notification. Always free, always unlimited, whether you have any balance or not.

The last one matters more than it sounds. It means the emergency case — "your car is on fire", "your lights are on" — can never fail because an account ran out of credit.

And you can switch any of it off

Each code has three toggles: allow reasons, allow connected calls, allow the free browser ring. One more pauses the code entirely, which takes the sticker out of service without removing it from the car.

That is the control that makes this safe to leave on a windscreen in a public car park. You can turn off the rung that costs money and keep the free alerts running, or shut the whole thing down for a week while you are away.

Not just cars

The same code works on a flat door, an apartment gate, a shop shutter, a parcel locker or an office entrance. The wording on the decal changes — digital doorbell and notice instead of need this vehicle moved? — and the reasons change with it: courier, visitor, building maintenance, urgent notice.

Landlords, housing societies and shops that close at six are the obvious cases. So is anyone who works shifts and would rather not have their number on the gate.
